Fund description

The Batian Fund is a private equity fund seeking to manage a total of US$100 million to invest in the growth needs of the small and medium enterprises in Eastern, Central and Southern Africa. Batian enjoys the backing of Imara, Norfund and ICEA, and will draw on their unique network and unrivalled depth of local knowledge of the African investment market.

Batian will seek to invest in high growth companies that are looking for an equity partner to fund their expansion and which can contribute significant management expertise.

The fund is lead by an experienced investment management team, headed by Shaun Collyer, CEO of Batian, with 15 years of private equity experience in the US and Africa, and complemented by experienced advisors such as Michael Turner, head of Actis, Kenya, David Rissik, former co-founder and CEO of RMB Corvest in South Africa, Tony Wainaina, former CEO of Trans-Century in Kenya, and Mark Tunmer, Imara Group CEO.

The Batian team expects to add significant value to its investment though its active participation in management and its insight into international private equity best practice in finance, accounting and governance.

Batian will invest in small and medium companies in Eastern, Central and Southern Africa.
